How to organise a band online
Most bands run on a group chat, a shared note and somebody's memory. It works until it does not — usually the week two people show up having practised different songs. A band room is a shared space where the plan, the gear and the conversation sit next to the music instead of scrolling away.
Create the band
- Open Bands and choose Create band — on an empty account this reads "Create your first band".
- Use the name people would recognise: the one on the poster, not an internal nickname.
- Add the city. It is what makes the band findable and tells collaborators where you actually play.
One room per project
Resist running two projects out of one room. Rooms are cheap; untangling a rehearsal plan for the wrong lineup is not.
If you play with the same three people in two different projects — a covers band and an originals band, say — two rooms will stay clearer than one, because the setlists, the gear needs and the schedule have nothing in common.
Make rehearsals worth the room hire
The most expensive part of a rehearsal is the first twenty minutes, when nobody has agreed what to play. Decide the set before the day, in writing, where everyone can see it.
Name the songs and the keys
Not "the new one" — the title, and the key you actually play it in rather than the key the record is in. Half of all rehearsal confusion is somebody having learned a song a whole step away from everyone else.
Say what to arrive knowing
A rehearsal is for playing together, not for learning parts individually while three people wait. If the drummer needs to know the new arrangement, say so before the day.
Separate stems for the parts nobody can hear
When a band cannot agree what happens in a bar, separating the recording settles it faster than arguing. Mute everything except the part in question and the answer is usually obvious in one listen.
Keep the gear conversation in one place
Who is bringing the PA, whose amp is in the van, which cables went missing after the last show — this is exactly the kind of information that gets lost in a chat thread and remembered in a car park.
Because gear already lives in your vault, the band room is the natural place to sort out what is being brought and by whom.
